I'm running PT 8.1 on an HD 5 rig on mac pro 8 core nehalem and i run out of dsp sometimes, when i mix in the box! In my opinion Pro Tools HD is a joke without a console and outboard, today, with the new generation of plugins. In top of that no 64 bits for HD users in the future. Nice!... These days i find more value for my Mac than my HD rig.
